Augusta team to probe Oldham’s CSE allegations

OPERATION Augusta’s independent review team is to investigate allegations into child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Oldham.

Confirmation of the move has been welcomed by Chris Gloster, Liberal Democrat councillor for the Shaw Ward and deputy leader of the opposition on Oldham Council.

Operation Augusta recently reported on the failings by both Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council with regards to CSE.

Cllr Gloster said: “It is clear from the Augusta report that failings by both police and children’s services are evident and much work needs to be done to ensure that this cannot happen again.

“While the Oldham review is not linked to Augusta, I am happy the same methodology and approach will be used here.

“The Manchester report does not make for pleasant reading.

“So, I feel reassured our calls for an independent investigation into recent allegations surrounding children in Oldham who were and realistically may still be at risk if weaknesses are found will be fully met.”
