A SHAW barber is taking his business into the fast lane after winning an exciting contract to cut hair at the home of British motorsport.
Danny Robinson and former UK Barber of the Year, Kilian Maddison, are off to Silverstone later this year after being asked to become the Northamptonshire circuit’s on-site hairdressers.
The duo, part of the cutting crew at Danny & Co, will go to the start line on their new project for the British Formula One Grand Prix on July 14.
“It’s so cool,” said Danny who as a second salon on Uppermill High Street in Saddleworth.
“Two barbers’ shops in Oldham now associated with one of the biggest sports in the world.
“It’s just crazy but if you don’t try, you never know.”
Danny and Kilian clinched the deal earlier this year. And as our pictures show were delighted to enjoy an access all areas backstage tour of the famous track where Lewis Hamilton won a record equalling fifth British GP title in 2017.
Whether they have chance to provide Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen and Co with pre-race haircuts and shaves is not known.
But as Danny told the Correspondent: “They will already have their own stylists you never know.
I’ve been to V Fest and Creamfields and you just don’t know who you are going to meet.”
Danny & Co will be the first to be given the Silverstone rights to barbering – all started by an email.
“We have done a few music festivals and major hair shows in UK but wanted to put a different spin on it and do something more original.
“Kilian organised much of it and sent out a lot of emails. Sometimes you never hear back but the people from Silverstone got in touch and asked us down for a meeting.
“I wouldn’t say we were sceptical, but we weren’t too sure what to expect.
“We did a laptop presentation and they had done their research on us.
“A lot of it probably had to do with Kilian winning barber of the year while we could back it up with some of the good things we have done.
“They gave us the tour and it was great being able to stand on the podium. Then they offered us a a one-year rolling contract.
“So, we are in the process of putting together a pop-up barber’s shop which will be branded up with Danny & Co and probably In Silverstone colours.
“Since this we have contacted F1 in Barcelona and other race tracks individually. Hopefully, we can go round the world cutting hair.
“The image of barbering has changed now. Ask young kids what they want to do and some will say footballers, others maybe tattooing and barbering.
“Indeed, we are part of Get Oldham Working, supporting young school leavers who want to train as barbers.”
Together with their Instagram followers, the business also uses the Booksy App for customer communications and appointment facilities. Booksy have agreed to sponsor their Silverstone venture.
“This is going to be great for our portfolio. Who knows what might come off the back of it.
“The shops in Shaw and Uppermill have come on leaps and bounds and now this. We certainly can’t complain.”
