Big Lamp says ‘Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus’

The Big Lamp Roundabout will be celebrating St David’s Day on Sunday, March 1 by being lit by yellow lights to signify the yellow of the daffodil which is the flower of Wales.

Local Shaw and Crompton Liberal Democrat Councillors have worked together with the street lighting team, over the last couple of years, to get the colour lights projected onto the four large trees.

Cllr Diane Williamson said: “When we made the decision to go down the route of celebrating national saints and other significant dates in the calendar, we really hoped that the residents like the quirky nature of it”.

Howard Sykes, a Shaw Councillor since 1987, added: “Who would have thought all those years ago, when I first got elected we would have those trees lit up.

“Since Christmas so many residents have made such positive comments, so I am pleased we did it”.

Holocaust Memorial Day and Valentine’s Day have already been celebrated.
