Final reminder: Register to vote in Local Elections

DON’T forget to register to vote to ensure you can have your say in May’s local elections

The borough will go to the polls on Thursday, May 2.

One seat will be up for grabs in each of the 20 Oldham Council wards – but voters won’t be able to have their say unless they are registered and, to take part, you need to do so by midnight tomorrow (Friday 12 April).

To register to vote, visit https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and to register for a postal vote, go to https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apply-for-a-postal-vote.

Returning Officer and Council Chief Executive, Dr Carolyn Wilkins OBE, said: “There’s not long left for people to register to vote in this year’s local elections and we don’t want anyone to miss out.

“Democracy is as important now as it has ever been so I would urge people to act now.”

Along with the deadline to register to vote, there are two other important dates to remember.

The deadline to register for a postal vote is Monday 15 April at 5pm while the deadline for the receipt of proxy vote applications is Wednesday 24 April at 5pm.

Oldham Council, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Electoral Commission have all been running promotional campaigns for the last month to remind people to register.
