Get in tune with In Harmony singers

THEY have changed their name but a High Crompton singing group is still hitting all the right notes with its new identity.

The former Trinity Singers, who rehearse at St Andrew’s Methodist Church on Rushcroft Road, are now known as In Harmony.

Next month they will be belting out a selection of classic songs, accompanied by Diggle Brass Band, at Trinity Methodist Church, Radcliffe Street, Royton on Saturday, September 22.

Helped by a grant from Shaw and Crompton Parish Council, the 50-strong In Harmony group has also adopted a more modern, less formal uniform in keeping with their name change.

Indeed, the singers can trace their history back nearly 100 years.

Originally formed in 1922 as Trinity Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society, performing stage presentations, they became exclusively a society of singers to save on the expenses of stage, costume and productions.

The society changed its name to The Trinity Singers and eventually moved from Honeywell Lane in Oldham to its present location.

Over the coming years concerts were held at various venues around Oldham, Rochdale and North Manchester.

In 2012, Diane Dunning the musical director stepped down and Vicky Radburn took over the position.

More recently, the group acquired a new accompanist Katarina Wilson who replaced Veronica Butterworth after 31 years of wonderful service.

Katarina plays the piano and is also an accomplished accordion player.

In 2017 the group decided to change its name and a vote was subsequently taken where “In Harmony” was chosen,

Member Marilyn Moore said: “We look forward to our new identity, and hope it will help to recruit new members of all ages, and signal even more success for the singers in the future.”

Within the group there is a small core who are happy to perform solos or duets and in the past they have added a poem or two.

Rehearsals are on Monday evenings at St Andrews Methodist Church from 7.45pm to 9.45pm.

Tickets for the September 22 show cost £6 (refreshments included) and can be obtained from Vicky Radburn.
