Mahdlo mentors needed

Mahdlo’s Mentoring Project is on the lookout for new recruits.

Can you spare one or two hours per week to provide support to a young person in need at the Youth Zone on Egerton Street?

You don’t need a youth work background, you just need to be a positive role model and available to give one to two hours a week on a one-to-one basis.

Mahdlo Mentors come from all walks of life and are recruited because they share a willingness to help young people through providing guidance and assistance with any difficulties they may be experiencing.

To become a mentor, you will have to be successful on group selection day, complete the training and clearance procedures, display suitable skills and qualities, and committee for at least 12 months.

Current Mahdlo mentor Holly said: “Being a mentor is very fulfilling and it’s helped me to develop as a person by working on my communication and other skills.

“I feel valued and it’s great to make a real connection with someone. I’d recommend it to anyone.”

The next group selection day will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 12noon-4.30pm.

Successful applicants will be invited to attend the training programme in February-April.

Mahdlo Youth Zone provides young people aged eight to 19 (up to 25 with additional needs or a disability) with somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.
