Mixing with the Elite- Shaw gym re-opens with new look

STAFF at Elite Fitness underwent a strenuous weekend workout with a difference as part of the Shaw gym’s ongoing refurbishment work.

Their efforts were rewarded though with many complimentary comments from members when the Grains Road premises re-opened on December 10 after its £15,000 refit.

In the space of 48 hours, owners Jordan and Katie Smithies plus their hard-working staff installed new lighting, decorated and re-laid the main 6,000 square foot gym floor.

In the process, they moved the gym’s extensive range of training machines, helping to build up existing muscles and find new ones not previously exercised!

Further improvements are planned to the male changing facilities and reception area as the couple looks to progress the popular independent business.

“The new year is obviously a big time for the gym trade and we wanted to make sure we are ready,” explained Jordan.

“First impressions count and we know people will be coming down in January for a look round.

“If they see the new layout and see the place is bright, clean and fresh, then that’s only going to help attract new members.”

Katie explained: “We closed the gym earlier than usual on Friday night and worked right through the weekend, finishing at about 10pm on Sunday.

“It was the first time we’ve ever shut but all the staff came in and helped to make sure we could open on Monday.

“We’ve already been going from strength to strength and that’s because our members keep coming back and also spreading the word.

“We are not a massive corporate gym so we have to do the work bit by bit.

“The new floor and lighting were big things for us. And we are really pleased how everything turned out.”

At the time of going to press, Elite Fitness was also planning to invest in new equipment including cardio machinery, cross trainers and weights sled.
