Ramblers put best feet forward for footpath clearances

A PUBLIC footpath in Royton is no longer passable only with care after the pruning skills of a group of volunteers.

Members of Oldham Ramblers and associate groups have been out every Tuesday, strimmers, clippers and hedge trimmers in hand, removing overgrown vegetation from popular byways throughout the borough.

Recently, they attended to a footpath off Middleton Road which was in need for urgent attention.

Footpath secretary John Walton said: “We are always on the lookout for extra hands to reduce the workload on volunteers coming out week after week helping to clear the blocked paths.

“The numbers of paths to be cleared are increasing by the day due to the rapid growth of brambles and nettles.”
