Roy’s book raises £1,000 for Maggie’s

ROY Butterworth’s memoir about a lifetime watching Oldham Athletic has become a bestseller.

The book ‘A Fan on the Inside’ has been flying off the shelves with the initial print run of 250 copies selling out in only four days.

And such has been the demand that Roy, 79, from Shaw, has had a second print run of 100 copies which is also heading for a sell-out.

Profits from the self-published book are being given to Maggie’s support centre at the Royal Oldham Hospital and so far £1,000 has been handed over.

Roy, who had his first season ticket in 1947, but he has also given 57 years’ voluntary service to the club which is the title of the book.

He was a founder of Radio Latics in 1963 but went on to become the club’s legendary matchday press officer so has been privileged to see the workings of the club from within the inner sanctum.
