A GREEN-FINGERED Royton resident is being celebrated for her dedication to the environment.
Kathleen Dunn, who lives at Runnymede Court, has transformed the area outside her front door into a vibrant display of potted plants and hanging baskets.
In doing so, she’s inspired her neighbours to follow suit.
Kathleen has been recognised for her eco-friendly efforts, winning the Sustainability Champion award in Anchor’s 2025 Loving Later Life Awards.
“I’m extremely pleased to have won the sustainability award,” said Kathleen. “I’ve lived in many different places during my life, and no matter where I am, my first instinct is to care for my surroundings – and there’s no better way for me personally than to plant, plant, plant.
“It’s great to hear that I have encouraged others to do the same.”

Her creative approach to small-space gardening caught the attention of a resident judging panel, who praised her for turning a modest area into a source of joy and inspiration.
“Kathleen shows how even the smallest patch can be transformed with imagination and care,” the judges said.
“By turning her view into something uplifting, she’s not only brightened her surroundings but inspired others – a wonderful example of sustainability in action.”
The Loving Later Life Awards – run annually by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people – celebrate residents who make a difference in their communities.
Winners were announced during a virtual ceremony, where Kathleen received a certificate and £100 in gift vouchers.
Anchor’s Interim Chief Executive, Amanda Holgate, added: “It’s inspiring to see how our residents continue to learn, grow and support one another in their communities.
“Every nomination we received tells a story of someone making a positive impact, and we’re proud to celebrate these remarkable individuals. Huge congratulations to everyone who won and was nominated.”
