PLAYHOUSE 2 turns to legendary American playwright Neil Simon for its next production starting on Saturday, February 16.
Come Blow Your Horn, Simon’s first play, premiered on Broadway in 1961 and was made into a film starring Frank Sinatra two years later.
This is a semi-autobiographical tale of Alan and Buddy (played by real-life brothers John and Andy Hoyle), the two sons of Mr and Mrs Baker.
Mr Baker, the owner of a wax fruit supply business and their passive aggressive mother with a tendency towards the hysterical (when it suits her) cannot understand why their sons do not want to follow the same path they did growing up.
Keen to free himself from his controlling parents, Buddy moves in with his brother Alan, a womanising bachelor living in a luxury New York apartment owned by one of his girlfriends.
Pleased at his brother’s show of independence, Alan introduces him to New York night life, his drinks cabinet and his girlfriends, causing a rift between Alan and his father, who is unhappy at Alan’s mentoring as well as the loss of an important account.
Come Blow Your Horn (February 16-24) is an hilarious, fast paced comedy about growing up and finding one’s way in life.
