Testing time brings ‘excellent’ results for GCSE students

STUDENTS at Crompton House School have been celebrating GCSE results “well above the national average”.

Eighteen percent of all results were at grades 7-9, 56 per cent of all results were at grades 5-9 and 76% of results were at grades 4-9.

A total of 70 top grade 9s were awarded to Crompton House students this year.

Headteacher Karl Newell said: “I congratulate our Year 11 students for their excellent GCSE results.

“I am particularly pleased twe have a good number of grade nines and eights.

“We are looking forward to seeing many of our students return to Crompton House Sixth Form in September and to hearing how others have been successful in gaining places on various college courses.”

Across the England, Wales and Northern Ireland the pass rate rose by 0.4 percentage points on last year to 67.3 per cent.

Papers receiving a top grade (7 or A and above) rose 0.3 percentage points to 20.8% from 2018.

Students at E-Act Royton and Crompton Academy also had the same trepidation and anticipation at opening their results.

They did so in part of the school’s new build open officially next month.

Councillor Shaid Mushtaq, Oldham Council Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said: “We’d like to congratulate all our pupils who after years of hard work and dedication have achieved the GCSE grades they require.

“GCSEs are an important part of a young person’s education and getting results is a momentous occasion in their lives.

“It will undoubtedly be a time, if not already, to think about next steps.

“Regardless of your results, whether they were what you wanted or not what you were after, there’s so many opportunities in Oldham, as well as the fantastic support services through your school and around the borough that can help.

“I am pleased to say provisional returns from our schools show 57.7 per cent of Oldham students have achieved a good grade 4 or above in English and Maths.

“We will continue to work in partnership with our schools to build on this success in the new academic year.
