Babies benefit from knitting skills of Townswomen’s Guild members

WHEN a request for cannula covers for new born babies was made by Royal Oldham Hospital members of Royton Townswomen’s Guild took out their knitting needles.


But they didn’t just stop at making cannula covers demonstrating their knitting skills to present the hospital with blankets, hats and cardigans for new borns as well as wash bags with toiletries for any unexpected stays in hospital.

Guild chairman Barbara Micklethwaite said: “Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the activities of our Guild came to an abrupt halt in March.


“But we have all kept in touch and are thrilled to helping out the NHS. Charity and good will are at the heart of our organisation.

“We are always ready and willing to help with a good cause. In this instance it has also gave us a purpose during this difficult time.”


Once circumstances change the Royton Townswomen’s Guild will return with their monthly meetings that have taken place for 58 years providing members with fun and friendship along the way.
