Crompton House students engineer competition success

SIX pupils from Crompton House were put to the test at a recent engineering challenge.

The Year 8 pupils went head to head with five other schools in The Faraday Challenge, organised by the Institute of Engineering and held at Withington Girls School in Manchester.

The challenge was to design an element of a theme park attraction, and Emma Astley, Jake Murray, Henry Molyneux, Freya Liles, Henry McLean and Amelia Wright all got really involved in the project.

They first had to organise themselves, taking on roles of Project Manager, Communications Officer, Safety Officer, Accountant, Electrical Engineer, Environmental Engineer and Performance Officer.

Then they designed and built a detailed model of part of the attraction, before giving a presentation to a team of judges.

Dr Knight, who accompanied the pupils, said they did really well and had a very interesting time.

The pupils really enjoyed the challenge and perhaps might be real-life engineers in the future!
