AN Italian restaurant and bar in Royton appears to have closed suddenly.
The substantial building is currently up for let with agents Barton Kendall.
And the Correspondent understands it could eventually re-open as a dining establishment.
A spokesperson told us: “There has been a lot of interest already.
“The idea would be to let it as a restaurant and function room. We are hoping to have the particulars available soon.”
De Niro’s opened in 2017 but in recent times its Facebook page has been taken down and its Twitter site has not been updated since January.
One person who attempted to book tried to clarify the situation. They wrote online: “De Niros has closed down, all windows boarded up.
“Such a shame, last time there I was told about all the high hopes they had. Hope it opens again.”
De Niros opened up in the former Old Moss Inn pub and its owners had high hopes for bringing a taste of Italy to Heyside.
They described the restaurant as being, ‘nestled in the heart of one of the most historic towns in Lancashire.’
They added: “Rustic Manchester charm meets refined Italian glamour, to create the perfect ambience for any occasion.”
However, dreams of making it a success appear to be over after the apparent decision to board up the windows.
The Correspondent attempted to contact the owners for a response to the claims and clarify the situation.
