THERE is no better way to get the most satisfaction out of your job than to do something you love for a living – so Demilee Morgan is certainly living her dream.
Her quirky business The Waxxy Warehouse was launched last June and has already grown since then from being just a hobby making wax melts at home into a limited company.
Demilee, 27, explained: “I used to be a beauty therapist before the pandemic but when the first lockdown hit, like a lot of people, I suddenly had to stop working and had no idea when or if I would go back.
“It was scary because I had a baby on the way, and I knew I needed to do something. The wax melts were more of a hobby for me and my little girl to alleviate the boredom of being stuck inside.
“But we started to have fun and really got into it which got me thinking that maybe we could explore making it into a bit of a side business from home.”
The Waxxy Warehouse specialises in hand-crafted 100 per cent wax providing richly scented, long-lasting melts to fill any home full of fragrance.
Demilee continued: “I never dreamed that the business would catch on as much as it has! At first it was just to make up for the money I was missing from beauty therapy.
“I didn’t even have a burner, and I had to learn as I went along, but the demand has been so high that it’s now my full-time occupation. We’re always busy and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.”
As the UK continues its cautious return to normality, Demilee hopes to see plans for a permanent store come to fruition in the coming years.
And she is also determined to expand on the company’s contributions to mental health charity Mind through her range of ‘Relaxiwaxi’ boxes.
She said: “I suffer with depression and anxiety, and Mind is a charity that means a lot to me so I try to donate as much as I can from our profits.
“Having the business has really helped my mental well-being throughout the lockdown, which is another reason why I’m so glad I made the decisions I did.”
