Detectives continue to investigate Oldham rape

Detectives are continuing to investigate a rape in Oldham. 

Shortly after 4.40am on Saturday 21 July 2018 a woman in her 20s had been walking on Westend Street when she was approached by a man.

Suddenly he grabbed her, and pulled her onto an artificial pitch nearby, where he assaulted the woman.

He then struck her with a roof slate and grabbed her throat, before raping her.

The woman ran to a nearby house to ask for help and the police were immediately called.

Specially trained officers continue to offer her support.

Detectives originally arrested an 26-year-old man on suspicion of rape but he has been released and eliminated from their enquiries.

The investigation remains ongoing and officers are continuing to appeal for the public’s help in finding the man responsible.

Detective Inspector Lindsay Booth from GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “Our specialist team continue to work tirelessly to find the man who subjected this woman to such a violent and terrifying attack.

“Additional officers will remain in the area continuing with their enquiries into this harrowing incident.

“We did originally arrest man in connection with this investigation but I want to make it clear that he is has now been eliminated from enquiries.

“It’s absolutely key that we hear from people in the area who saw, or heard, anything that could help with this investigation.
