COUNCILLORS Louie Hamblett and Angie Farrell have been elected as the Liberal Democrat’s interim leadership team on Shaw and Crompton Parish Council.

This follows the expulsion from the party of the previous Leader and Deputy Leader, Cllrs Denise Tindall and Shaun Duffy, who remain on the Council as Independents.
Cllr Hamblett at 26 is the youngest and the only openly Lesbian Gay, Bisexual and Transgender councillor in Oldham.
He said: “I am delighted and honoured Angie and I have received the support of our party colleagues.
“The Liberal Democrats will continue to provide the effective voice on the Parish Council and speak up on issues that affect our area.
“With the support of Council group, we will continue to speak up and work hard for the residents of for our area.
“Our aim is to revitalise the council and make it a busy, active one that engages with our residents and shows both value for money and the effectiveness it can have, by bringing the Council into the 21st century by communicating on many platforms and showing we have a good representation on our Council.”
Cllr Angie Farrell added: “I am happy to have been voted by my colleagues as deputy group leader on the Parish Council, supporting the group leader, Louie, over the next five months.”
