CROMPTON FC played host to the Isle of Man Football Association’s Centre of Excellence team who came to the North West for a weekend of football and social activities.
Isle of Man coach Ric Delaney and Crompton FC coach Chris Leach played football together nearly 20 years ago at Oldham Victoria and then both moved into coaching their daughter’s teams.
Ric, who moved with his family to the Isle of Man three years ago, raised the idea of a trip from the island so his players could play some of the teams at Crompton FC.
Players and coaches met up prior to the games for a social evening of ten pin bowling and a meal.
First up were the U14s Jets and though they took an early lead through Róisín Leach in a close first half, the Isle of Man girls changed the game around to win 5-1. Freya Birley received Ric’s vote for Crompton’s girl of the game.
The following day, the recently crowned U15s league champions saw the Isle of Man team produce an excellent performance and finish off with a 7-0 win. Hannah Harewood was voted Crompton’s girl of the game.
Ric said: “Myself and Lauren Would like to thank Crompton FC for hosting the weekend of football and making a great job of arranging everything.
“I feel the girls from both sides applied themselves impeccably on and off the pitch and the social side of the weekend was a great experience.
“I’m sure some new friendships between the girls have been made and again a massive thanks to the coaches from Crompton’s teams, Chris and Steve for the challenge and I hope Crompton F.C. can come over to us to play some games in the Isle of Man.”
Chris Leach, who organised the weekend said: “It was great to see Ric again and his assistant Lauren.
“The girls are a credit to the Isle of Man.
“My U14s team had a great game and I was really pleased the girls held their own for the first half.
“Saturday evening went really well as we went to Crompton Cricket Club to watch the Manchester derby and then had a great party for our guests.
“I’d like to thank all those that supported the weekend, players, parents and everyone Crompton FC who made it such a success.”
