SHAW Cricket Club is looking to get the finances in place to fund £60,000 of improvements to its clubhouse at Holebottom Clough.
Now it is a case of getting the money to go ahead with the work with the club in the final stages of making a funding proposal to the England and Wales Cricket Board.
“We are looking at different options to fund the work which includes the ECB,” explained captain Steven Whiston.
Ideally the club would like to secure funding quickly so work can be completed before the start of the 2020 season in April.
The planning consent will enable Shaw to create a proper cellar as they currently have limited beer storage capacity.
Steve explained they will be able to hold “significantly more” beer. Other work will include doubling the size of the bar, a new kitchen and windows and improving the toilets.
Shaw has also signed a five-year sponsorship deal with brewers Carlsberg. The package, worth a five-figure sum, is the largest in the club’s history.
Carlsberg will also be helping Shaw to modernise the club’s bar facilities.
Shaw, promoted to the third tier in the restructured GMCL, are not envisaging many changes to the play8ing personnel for the new season.
They have re-signed Sri Lankan Dilanka Sandakan as their professional.
• Heyside, who have put the feelers out for a new professional, is holding its presentation night at the club on Friday, November 15.
