Hobbyist Jack Blincoe is rolling back the years again for our readers with more items from his eclectic collection of curios.
The retired draughtsman and engineer first came to the Correspondent’s attention last year when we revealed details of his fascinating array of objects, many transformed from unwanted household waste.
Now, Jack’s been busy again and takes up the story.
“When I was a boy in the 1940s and 50s a weekly treat was dandelion and burdock or sarsaparilla drink delivered to our doorstep in an earthenware jar,” he explained.
“I have one of these jars supplied by a botanical brewery called Scott’s of Bolton and dated 1942.
“The jar was never returned back to the brewery for refilling because some poor soul may have used it as a hot water bottle to keep their feet warm during World War Two air raids.
“This jar I have decorated with a number of plaster formed icons of that period like Desperate Dan, Corky the Cat, a Spitfire, cotton mill and a modern Warburtons Bakery delivery van.
“This creation I’ve photographed together with a booklet on the family history of Warburtons bakery.”
