OLDHAM Roughyeds fans may remember Luke Menzies as a raw but promising prop forward.
But eight years after his only season at Oldham, the much travelled 29-year-old is carving out a new career.
And rather than scrum cap, gum shield, shirt, shorts and size 10 boots, Yorkshireman Menzies will be wearing a lot less for his forthcoming appearance in Royton.
Menzies, whose other clubs included: Swinton, Salford, Hull KR and Toronto Wolfpack, has become a wrestler on the British independent circuit.
As a result, on Saturday, December 23, he will be appearing at Royton Band Club on Sandy Lane as part of the ‘Wrestling Stars, Christmas Spectacular.’
It is a showcase of wrestlers past, present and future including tag team matches, singles bouts and a multi man royal rumble contest.
Others on the bill include the Lion Kings, the ‘Muscle Cat’, Saxon Huxley and former Love Island contestant, Adam ‘Flex’ Maxted.
The event, starting at 6pm, has been organised by the Squared Circle Wrestling Academy based in Newhey and run by wrestling legend, Marty Jones.
Admission for this inaugural Royton show cost £5 for children, £8 for adults and £23 for a family of four ticket. For further details call: 07751 978593.
