You can help make a real change on World Homeless Day.
Since earlier this year organisations across the borough have been working to get Real Change Oldham – a pioneering new initiative aimed at helping people in the borough who are homeless or at risk – up and running.
Real Change Oldham raises funds via donations from businesses and the public to support people in the local area.
The money generated is then used to pay for items, such as things like ID to register with a landlord or bus fares to get to key appointments, which directly help people to move away from the streets or avoid homelessness.
To mark World Homeless Day (October 10) a launch event for the campaign is being held from 10am at Gallery Oldham, Greaves Street, Oldham, OL1 1AL.
Residents, councillors, businesses and organisations from across Oldham will be sharing how they are supporting Real Change Oldham and encouraging people to do the same.
Everyone who is attending will be asked to make a pledge about how they can help support the campaign and ultimately some of the borough’s most vulnerable people.
On the day there will also be a range of events taking place across the town centre including a bucket collection.
Victoria Holden, who chairs Real Change Oldham, said: “Across the country more and more and people, from all walks of life, are struggling or are ending up homeless.
“Oldham is no different which is why a host of organisations have come together to try and put a stop to homelessness in the borough.
“By donating money or getting involved in Real Change Oldham you can make a difference to local people’s lives.”
A large number of people have already shown their support for the campaign and we are now looking for more businesses, workplaces and community groups to get involved raising funds and awareness to help end homelessness in Oldham.
