MP Jim McMahon rewards Oldham Cancer Support Group fundraisers with House of Commons gifts

TWO fundraisers from Oldham Cancer Support Group have been presented with special gifts from the House of Commons by their patron and MP Jim McMahon.

Mr McMahon, who is MP for Oldham West and Royton, gave four-year-old Summer a House of Commons teddy bear, stationary set, and chocolates after she walked a mile a day every day in March, raising more than £1,000.

Colin, in his fifties, was gifted a signed bottle of House of Commons whiskey after his fundraising efforts also exceeded £1,000.

Colin had planned to run a marathon at Mount Everest in May, but due to Covid-19 his plans have been put on hold.

Mr McMahon said: “It was amazing to get out and support Oldham Cancer Support Group and these two amazing fundraisers.

“I’ve been a long-standing supporter of the group since it was set up around 15 years ago and I’m honoured to be a Patron.

“The sense of family and compassion shown by all the trustees and volunteers is outstanding.”

“It’s been hard for charities to raise money with lockdown restrictions, but the determined efforts of Summer and Colin will be a massive help to the group.

“I’m really impressed with the efforts they’ve both gone to and all being well I can’t wait to hear back from Colin on how his Everest adventure goes next May.”
