Mum and daughter team to help Royton flower stall blossom

A POPULAR flower stall at Royton Market will blossom once more after being re-launched by a mum and daughter team.

Beverley and Sophie Barrott are taking over the stall from Ian Roberts, who served his last customers in autumn 2019.

Now, the pair are excited to launch into their new venture and from February 20 will be on the market in the precinct every Thursday from 9am-4pm.

They will be selling an array of fresh flowers as well as fresh and artificial arrangements, eco-friendly soy candles and wax melts.

Beverley, 57, explained: “I have worked in accounts nearly all my life so I felt like I wanted a change. I did floristry years ago mainly as a hobby so decided to go back to that.

“I care for my mum full-time so this is something I can do at home and fit in nicely around that.

“We’re taking over from Ian but he is going to supply the flowers direct from Holland which is great as people have been going to him for year and know they will be high quality.

“We’ve done a lot of preparation and got everything ready and now I can’t wait to get started.

“You’re never too old to start a new career! I even started with a TV agency last year as an extra. I ended up being a nurse on Coronation Street few times, which has been fun.”

Sophie, 27, who is a self-employed videographer, will be helping mum Beverley on Thursdays at the market, which dates back as far as 1880 and has stalls ranging from fresh meat or fish to muffins, cheeses and fruit, all from local traders.

Beverley will also be working from home through her new business ‘The House of Ivy’ – named after her mum – and can take orders for individual requirements, and is offering a local delivery service.
