Ninth arrest made in Oldham firearms investigation

POLICE have confirmed they have made a ninth arrest in connection with a firearms incident in Oldham. 

An 18-year-old man suffered serious injuries during the incident on Shaw Road on Thursday, January 16.

He remains in a stable condition in hospital after being fired at while getting out of a taxi by someone on a motorcycle, who then fled the scene.

Greater Manchester Police has said that a 22-year-old man was arrested on Monday, January 27, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and assisting an offender.

Of the other eight arrests, one person has been charged and the other seven bailed as police say investigations are continuing.

The Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley, said: “We are continuing to make progress in this complex and large investigation, and I hope that hearing of a further arrest reassures the public about the seriousness of which we are treating it.

“Local officers have continued to give reassurance to the community and maintain a visible presence as enquiries have continued.

“Our appeal for any information about this incident remains live, and we encourage anyone who knows anything, and hasn’t previously been in touch with us, to come forward.”
