SHAW barber Danny Robinson really is a cut above the rest after scooping two awards at the prestigious Salon International hairdressing convention in London.
Described as ‘the event at the heart of the professional hairdressing industry’, Salon International saw more than 400 brands showcase their products and services.
And Danny’s win as ‘barber of the year’ follows the 2017 victory of fellow cutter and manager Kilian Maddison from Moorside.
“I hosted the modern barber stage over three days,” explained Danny whose Danny & Co salons can be found on Milnrow Road and High Street, Uppermill.
“On the quiet I entered two competitions but I didn’t tell anyone – not even staff – just in case I didn’t win,” he laughed.
“The competition was on the Sunday and you had 30 minutes to recreate the photo I had sent off two months prior.
“My wife is one of the best hairdressers I have ever come across.
“She has worked for Vidal Sassoon, Trevor Sorbie and actually led the Manchester salon, Education.
“So, Sam re-taught me my scissor game as over the last few years I had got slightly lazy and picked up bag habits.
“We worked on training heads at home over an intense training regime honing my cutting skilling.
“On the day of competition I tuned up with my models, Nathan and Cal, and I cut my models in the competition area.
“I was slightly nervous,” he told the Correspondent. “But having watched Kilian win in the past I knew what to expect.
“The announcement of winners was at 5.30pm on the Hairdressers Journal stage.
“We won but I was told by the judges I could only win one even though I came first in both of them.
“This has come at the perfect timing,” explained Danny. “We have a new salon opening on Huddersfield Road near Tesco Extra.
“Me and Sam will be opening a Sassoon partner salon – only one of four in the country. This is a huge achievement.
“We will be offering both men and women’s services in including creative cutting, colour and Sassoon trained barbering.
“This is something dreams are made of and Oldham has never seen anything like it.
“Best Kept Secret by Sassoon will be open hopefully before Christmas.”
