Royton man’s conviction for assault

A ROYTON man has been given a conditional discharge for 18 months after being convicted of assault and using threatening or abusive words.

Nicholas Randall, 31, of Middleton Road, pleaded guilty to the offences at Tameside Magistrates Court.

He was ordered to pay £100 compensation to the victim of the assault by beating, £85 costs and a £21 surcharge to help fund victim services.

The court ruled that the threatening or abusive words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress were ‘religiously aggravated’.
