Santa Claus comes to town for Christmas lights switch-on

CHRISTMAS came early in Shaw and Crompton as Santa made a special visit for the annual festive lights switch-on.

Shaw and Crompton Events Group arranged an exciting programme of games, entertainment and fun for all the family on December 1.

Town Crier Marcus Emms opened proceedings before visitors immersed themselves in a host of activities and attractions.

There was everything from table-top games, a tombola and market stalls to craft activities, free pony rides and roundabouts.

Entertainment included Act One performing The Greatest Showman, Oldham Scottish Pipe Band, and school bands and choirs from St Joseph’s Primary School and Crompton House.

And not forgetting the special guest himself, Santa and his elves greeted visitors in his grotto at the RBL club, handing out free gifts to the children.

There was also Santa’s Café with mouth-watering mulled wine and mince pies, along with other refreshments.

And a rousing finale saw everyone gather together for the grand raffle draw followed by the big countdown, carols and the lights switch-on.

Shaw and Crompton Events Group is run by local residents, businesses and councillors who are self-funded through grants to organise events locally. For further information visit the Events Group’s Facebook page.
