A RECORD amount was raised by North Stars Theatre Company for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice from its annual Broadway & Beyond concert.
The audience at St Herbert’s Parish Centre, Chadderton were transported on a whirlwind tour of musicals from 1500 to the present day.
Songs were featured from Broadway and West End musicals, including classics such as Les Miserables and Chicago, as well as recent hit shows Six, Hamilton and Come From Away.
The show was very well received and raised in excess of £1,700 for the Royton-based hospice.
Lillie Winterbottom, community fundraiser for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, said: “The continued support of everyone at North Stars Theatre Company is amazing.
“Year on year the cast give freely of their time and talents, creating spectacular shows which raise amazing amounts for the care of patients and families at the Hospice.
“We are so grateful to each and every one of them and our community who support them.”
The concert involved for the first time the North Stars’ senior elite group, made up of members aged 13-16.
The concert was also attended by National Operatic Dramatic Association representative Claire Ashworth, who said: “The North Stars company always brings great passion and a sense of family in everything they do.
“They offer a home, a place to be themselves and a place where everyone is equal.
“Linzi (McCoy) inspires all around her to be the best version of themselves they can be. She makes dreams come true.”
The show was directed and produced by Linzi, Director of North Stars, with choreography and musical direction by Darcey McCoy.
Linzi said: “We cannot thank everyone involved enough for making the concert another amazing success.
“Everyone gives so generously of their time and energy, both cast and crew.
“It would not be possible without all the hard work of my amazing team.
“We would also like to thank the local businesses who donated goods or vouchers for our raffle, and the London companies of Les Miserables and Hamilton and Beaverbrooks for their generous donations.
“This is the biggest single amount we have raised for the hospice to date.
“And it is important for us to continue our community work both in terms of fundraising and voluntary projects.”
Planning is already underway for the next charity concert in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice on Saturday, September 26, 2020.
