ROYTON Cricket Club has helped send a talented young cricketer to play in India on tour.
Jack Fawcett has headed to the sub-continent as part of Lancashire County Cricket Club’s Under-13s side which will play five matches in very different conditions.
And the Greater Manchester Cricket League outfit provided a helping hand, along with plenty of other people who contributed towards the costs, to send him thousands of miles away to the city of Mumbai.
Jack’s father Nick posted on Facebook: “A big thank you to Royton Cricket Club who have sponsored Jack playing for Lancashire in India over the next two weeks, and also everybody who donated money at the club towards the trip, which will be a fantastic experience.”
The Under-13s trip is being run by Lancashire, who say it is to ‘launch a pilot project aimed at the club’s future academy cricketers undertaking annual overseas tours.’
Jack is one of 16 young players to make the trip to play games, as well as take to part in a development programme designed to improve their cricket skills in a challenging environment.
It will also see them work with the Dharavi Cricket Academy, as part of the Project Front Foot initiative, which is a charity partner of the Lancashire Cricket Foundation.
The young Red Rose side will also train with the Global Cricket School, a scheme founded to provide a holistic cricket experience that helps cricketers gain the competitive advantage.
The facility aims at providing exposure to the differing conditions and skill sets required to succeed in a different continent.
While Jack is showing the future at Royton looks good, the present is also in safe hands after it agreed to continue its sponsorship deal with Monarch Metals, which is based on Westwood Industrial Estate.
Paul Allott, Lancashire’s Director of Cricket said “It’s a fantastic chance for some of the young batsmen in the squad to develop and improve their skills against spin bowlers.
“I am looking forward to following their progress.”
