Tributes have been paid to Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Syddall, a founder member of the Friends of Dunwood Park and the group’s long serving treasurer.
The funeral of father of two Ronnie, 81, took place at St Mary’s Church on Monday, December 11. He died on November 27.
“Ronnie was a lovely man and a real gentleman,” said Pauline Holt, chair of the Friends’ group.
“He was meticulous in everything he did and was so conscientious. Just the qualities you need in a treasurer.
“I knew him for five or six years after joining the Friends and he will be sadly missed.”
Parish Councillor Louie Hamblett, who attended the funeral, added: “Ron was one of the founding members of the Friends of Dunwood Park and the first treasurer.
“He also took on numerous other responsibilities and volunteered to look after the grounds at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.”
At their December meeting, Shaw and Crompton Parish Council agreed to send letters of condolence to Ronnie’s wife, Margaret, and also the Friends of Dunwood Park.
