OLDHAM RUFC Ladies savoured victory in their first-ever competitive match.
They defeated West Leeds Bramhope second team 38-25 at Manor Park in National Challenge 2, North West 2.
Though the ladies’ team has existed for three years, this is their first formal RFU league as they have previously played friendlies.
It took Oldham only two minutes to make the breakthrough with a try from Darcey Price which was converted by captain Becky Hughes.
Oldham went on to score five further tries from Lizzie Lindley (2), Price, Jack Kaye and Dani Dunkiert.
The remaining points came from captain Becky Hughes and Kaye.
The youngest member of the team, 17-year-old Sam Hannah deserved special mention.
The game also marked the returns after injury of Faye Lawrence and Kerrie Massey.
Forward Faye had been out since April with a broken collarbone while Kerrie, a utility player, broke her ankle in December.
- Oldham’s other league opponents are Chester Divas, Workington Finches, Leeds Pink Warriors, Winnington Park, West Park Leeds II, Harrogate II and Sandal.
