COMMUNITY-SPIRITED volunteers are needed to help ensure this year’s popular Santa visits and Christmas Cash Collection by Crompton and Royton Rotary and Inner Wheel can go ahead.
The event was cut back last year in some areas including Rushcroft as there were not enough helpers on hand.
So now the Clubs are encouraging more volunteers to get involved so Santa can roll up in his sleigh to visit more children and collect more cash to help charities.
They said: “Christmas may be a favourite time of year but some parts of it just seem expensive and hard work. Yet it is sometimes the simplest things that bring seasonal joy.
“For instance, when the Rotary Float, all brightly lit and carrying Santa, rolls up outside your house.
“Crompton & Royton Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs enjoy providing this simple service every year but we are not getting any younger and we are not as nimble as we were.
“So why not come and give us a lift on the night when we are on your estate.”
The clubs have permits from Oldham Council for Santa visits from 6pm to 8pm in the following areas:
- Wednesday, December 4 – Holden Fold Lane and Royle Estate, Royton
- Friday, December 6 – Heyside, Royton
- Monday, December 9 – Grasmere Estates, Royton
- Tuesday, December 10 – Thorp Farm Estate, Royton
- Monday, December 16 – Netherhouse and Surrey Ave Estate, Shaw
Rushcroft was missed out last year due to a lack of helpers and Rotary is hoping to find half a dozen volunteers so this year’s visit can go ahead.
