Be Inspired, Get involved and have fun at the #YOUROLDHAM festival

The #YourOldham Festival is back showcasing the great co-operative work going on across our borough and giving you the chance to discover how to do #yourbit and get involved.

This year’s festival is taking place on Thursday 26 July from 10am–3pm in Oldham town centre.

This is a family friendly event organised by Oldham Council which aims to inform and inspire residents and businesses to do #yourbit, with more than 40 organisations and community groups all coming together to celebrate their work.

Come along and visit ‘Inspiration Street’ located in Manchester Chambers and see what you could grow in your back alleyway or meet the charities that are helping to improve people’s lives from Guide Dogs, to Oldham Credit Union, Age UK and Oldham Food Bank.

You can see what wonders Veg in the Park have grown at Waterhead Park and Oldham Play Action Group will be turning Parliament Square into an area where children can play outdoor games and enjoy a range of family activities, demonstrations and stalls.

We’re also giving away some amazing prizes from local businesses within the town centre. These include £100 of shopping vouchers, food vouchers from Smoke Yard, Parliament SQ Café and Deli, and Nando’s, plus a bounty of goodies from the Body Shop.

All you need to do is collect a Your Oldham passport on the day and gather six signatures from different locations around the town centre. Once completed, simply return your passport to the #YourOldham stall on the High Street for your chance to win.

Councillor Sean Fielding, Council Leader, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing so many organisations and community groups together to celebrate everything great about Oldham.”

“The #YourOldham Festival is all about engaging even more people and raising the profile of all the important community work going on across the borough in a fun environment.

“There’s already some truly inspiring work going in our communities but we’d love even more groups and residents to get involved.

“Events like these don’t just support and promote Oldham’s ambitions of being a co-operative borough, they’re also a fun and accessible way for people to learn more about how to get involved and do #yourbit.”

#YourOldham Festival is part of a wider campaign encouraging residents and businesses to get involved in improving where they live. This could be something simple, like taking part in a litter pick, checking on a neighbour or getting involved in your local growing hub.
