Community groups recipients of Parish Council chair’s fund raising efforts

ALMOST £1,500 has been awarded to community groups and organisations thanks to the year-long fundraising events of Shaw and Crompton Parish Council chair, Councillor Denise Tindall.

Cllr Tindall’s stint in the post has now come to an end, succeeded for the first time by Councillor David Bibby who will now embark on his own charity fund raising efforts.

One of her last civic duties was to invite representatives from her eight chosen groups to a special presentation ceremony at Parish Council officers in Shaw.

“It might not be a lot of money but what I wanted to do was to push it back into the community, our community,” she told guests.

“I know there are groups like Dr Kershaws and Macmillan Cancer Support who raise money and do really good work.

“But they are pretty well represented and supported by their own funding people.

“It was my thought that I wanted to give back to the smaller groups that don’t tend to receive anything. So, that’s what I have decided to do.

“The first group is the One World Community hub and they will receive £250.

“This is a group that provides a place for people with additional needs and there is nothing else quite like it.

“We also have a number of people from Shaw who attend this group.

“East Crompton St James will receive £200 and my wish would be be half of the donation goes towards flowers in the church and half towards providing a Christmas lunch (£200).

“We know the Rotary Club of Crompton and Royton do extensive work and we know there is more than one Rotary Club.

“But we wanted to particularly keep it in our local area so we are going to give you £150,” explained Cllr Tindall.

Both the St Mary’s Rainbows and the First Shaw Scout group received £175.

Shaw Rascals toddlers, nursery and childcare organisation, based at St Paul’s, received £200 while the Royal British Legion in Shaw collected £150.

The final recipients were the VI Bees.

Les Coop from Royton and Crompton Rotary Club

“I don’t think there is quite another group like it in Oldham and I am pleased to award them £170,” said Cllr Tindall.

The Correspondent will be turning the spotlight on the recipients in our June paper.
