Dragon gets comeuppance (again) as Shaw celebrates St George’s Day

ST GEORGE made his annual appearance at Shaw Royal British Legion Games as the town helped to celebrate England’s patron saint special day.

Youngsters enjoyed a variety of side stalls and games including tin can alley, roll-a-coin, spin-the-arrow and dragon slayer.

Emma Ditchfield, who is Asda’s community champion, volunteered all afternoon putting on free crafts, helping to create ‘colour-me-in t-shirts’ at a craft corner.

Café St. George had complimentary refreshments for those supporting the event while a sweet tombola did brisk business as usual.

There was also a ‘name the bunny’ competition. Hazel’ has now gone to live with her new owner, Joshua,

Paw Patrol’s Chase and Marshall, together with Shaw and Crompton Town Crier visited town centre shops to deliver and make sure St. George’s flags were flying high.

The event ended with St. George slaying the Dragon (pinata) filled with goodies for everyone to take home.
