Bowls players off to a flying start

ACTION is well underway in all the local leagues and some of our bowlers are off to a flyer.

In the Monday afternoon Oldham Ladies Over 60s League, Royton Cricket ‘A’ are top of division one after winning three of their first four games with Dorothy Ashton unbeaten in her four matches so far.

In division two, Royton Park are top after an unbeaten start, Betty Brown and Pam Pemberton leading the way with four wins from four.

And in division three, High Crompton Park ‘B’ are second after three wins from their four games.

Linda Melling has started the season magnificently with four wins from her four matches.

In the Monday evening Oldham League, Royton Cricket ‘A’ are second in division two with four wins from their first five games. Geoff Ball and Colin Brooks are unbeaten with five from five.

Dunwood Park ‘A’ are second in division three with four wins out of five; Malcolm Percival and Steven Holden the lead bowlers with four wins from five. Dunwood Park ‘B’ are matching their ‘A’ team being second in division four winning all four of their matches, Wayne Cheeseman, Tony Korny and Scott McDonald all unbeaten.

In the Tuesday afternoon Rochdale Vets League, Ladybarn are top of the division ‘B’ with three wins from three, Steve Hughes leading the way also with three wins from three.

In the Tuesday evening Oldham Ladies League, Royton Cricket ‘A’ are second in division one after winning their opening two matches.

In division two, local teams are battling it out for supremacy with the unbeaten High Crompton ‘B’ top; Irene Carr and Pauline Givvons both winning three out of three. Royton Park are second with Wendy Maddock winning all three of her games, Shaw Comrades ‘B’ are just behind in third led by Carol Wroe winning her first three matches. And in division three, Crompton are top with Ann Tudor winning all three games, just ahead of Shaw Comrades ‘A’ with Marion Clayton star bowler with three wins from three.

In the Wednesday night Failsworth League, Royton Cricket ‘B’ are off to a sound start, lying third in division ‘A’; Lee Higginbottom has two wins from two. In division ‘C’, Shaw Comrades ‘A’ are also third with Jack Newman, Ken Shaw, Terry Dockray and Steve Taylor all recording three wins from three.

Thursday afternoon in the Oldham Men’s Vets League, and Crompton are top of division ‘B’ with Rob Lamb, Jim Barton, Bob Horrocks and Brian Yates are unbeaten in their first four matches.

Royton Park ‘A’ are top of division ‘C’, with Harry Hall, Ken Jones and Tom Higginbottom leading the way with four wins from four.

The sole local representatives in the Thursday evening Blackley League, Royton Cricket, lie second in division ‘A’, Steve Bolton and Keith Gledhill winning their first three matches.

The local youngsters are underway in the Friday evening Rochdale Junior League. Dunwood Park ‘A’ lie second in the seven-team league, after winning their first two games; Sam Casella and Logan Korny are both two wins from two.

In the Saturday afternoon Oldham Parks League, Heyside are top of the new second division, after having nine winners at home to King George’s and all 10 winners at home to Friezland Green ‘B’.

Ruth Hicklin, Brian and Catherine Hitchen, and George Clapton all three wins from three.

In the Saddleworth League, High Crompton are second in division two after winning three of their first four games. Michael Hobbs has yet to taste defeat in his three matches. And Crompton BC are just behind in third place with a similar winning record as their near neighbours, Bob Horrocks is unbeaten in his first three matches.
