A DAY of free fun, flags and festivities to mark St George’s Day takes place in Shaw on Saturday, April 21.
And while 48 hours earlier than England’s patron saint’s official day, the celebrations will be no less meaningful.
“We are quite a patriotic little town, aren’t we? says Sue Banks, secretary of organisers Shaw and Crompton Events Group.
“The event will be run by volunteers and all monies taken on the day will help towards the cost of organising our annual Shaw and Crompton Christmas Lights switch on, which we hope to be the best ever this year.
“All donations would be welcome and if anyone would like to volunteer or join the Group that would be great.
“We have also organised for flags to fly over the town centre shops and businesses from Friday, April 20 to Tuesday, April 24.
“Thanks to Shaw and Crompton District Councillors who have funded installation of the flags.”
Four hours of events will begin at 1pm at the British Legion on Newtown Street, Shaw, and will include ‘slay the dragon’, hook a duck, tin can alley, table top games, refreshments and much more.
