Get your kicks: win tickets to watch the Undertones

FORTY years after the release of one of punk rock’s most iconic albums, the Undertones, are coming to Manchester.

And to mark the anniversary of a record including hits, Teenage Kicks, Jimmy Jimmy and Here Comes the Summer, the Correspondent is providing one reader and guest, chance to see the Ulster boys in action at the O2 Ritz on Saturday, May 11.

As a bonus, the Undertones will be supported by the Neville Staple Band, whose main man was a member of Ska favourites The Specials.

Formed in Derry in 1975, the Undertones became one of the favourite bands of legendary DJ John Peel.

On May 13, 1979 Seymour Stein’s Sire records released the band’s self-titled debut album, ‘The Undertones.’

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of its release, the group is about to tour presenting a set of classic tracks taken from this classic album.

Special guest Neville Staple, now 64, is known as the original rude boy and has a career in the music industry also exceeding four decades.

From the early days with the Coventry Automatics, the Specials and Funboy Three in the late 70s and 80s, he progressed to the Special Beat and other collaborations during his solo career from the 90s up to the present day.
