A SHAW pub is feeling flush after panning the opposition to win a top toilet honour.
The Shay Wake was part of the chain gang loo-king to win recognition in the 30th anniversary Loo of the Year awards.
Inspectors visited 836 towns and cities as well as 56 London Underground stations to check out around 1,700 toilets.
Their duty was to grade male, female, accessible and baby change facilities from bog standard through to platinum.
Toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.
And the popular Wetherspoon hostelry on Milnrow Road passed its examinations with flying colours.
Mike Bone, Loo of the Year Awards 2017 managing director, said: “The toilets at the pub have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and is both clean and well maintained.
“The pub richly deserves its platinum awards – the highest individual award the judges can deliver.
“Apart from a couple of instances where security clearance was required, our inspectors visit the premises unannounced.”
The other Oldham pub to receive the same recognition was the Up Steps Inn on High Street in Oldham Town Centre.
The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of ‘away from home’ toilet provision across the UK.
