No room for error as Roughyeds’ play-off hopes hang by thread

OLDHAM Roughyeds fans face a nail biting end to the season.

With games running out Scott Naylor’s side occupy the fifth and final play-off spot in Betfred League One.

But Roughyeds are on the same number of points as sixth placed Hunslet while two of their last three games are against the division’s top two sides, York City Knights and Bradford Bulls.

However, in a tight competition Oldham are only two points adrift of third placed Doncaster with a superior points difference.

“We still need to do a lot of improving before our next two games against York and Bradford,” said Naylor after a 58-6 win over Coventry Bears.

“You can get away with mistakes against some teams, but not against the top two sides in our division.”

Next up for Naylor’s men on Sunday, September 9 are table topping York, beaten only twice in their 23 league games.

Two-try Matty Wilkinson was a deserving man-of-the-match winner against Coventry while other Oldham tries were scored by: Jack Holmes (2), Craig Briscoe, Danny Langtree (2), Luke Hooley, Ben West and Phil Joy,

Paul Crook kicked seven conversions out of eight attempts and Hooley kicked two from two near the end.
