DUNWOOD Park Nordic Walkers are taking part in the ‘South Pennines Walking Festival’ which runs from September 8 to September 23, 2018.
Their own walk is planned for Sunday, September 9 when a member of the group will present a talk about the family’s experience in the State of Qatar.
This promises to be an unusual and interesting talk for approximately 40 minutes followed by a walk.
Anyone interested can loan Nordic Walking poles for the occasion and everyone is welcome, starting at Dunwood Park bowling pavilion at 11am.
An A6 pocket book sized booklet provides full details of this and other walks in the South Pennines area are now being distributed from Pennine Prospects who are the organisers and are available in local libraries.
A recent Park group outing saw them filmed by Martin Bennett of Lush Vision as they strode out on Crompton Moor up a steep narrow path to gain height quickly, to meet Martin on a fine vantage point.
Everyone enjoyed the surprisingly dry walk which involved accessing the Moor by Higher Park and Jordan Brow, where a picture was taken at the Clay Shooting Cabin.
Exploration of the moor continued past Browns Barns, Whitesides, Crow Knowl mine with the mast in the background and finally looking at the original farmhouse curved oven at Bowling Green.
The Nordic Walkers recently ran a special beginners’ group.
Not put off by the recent hot weather, everyone was put through their paces outside the Bowling Pavilion.
The group had easy access to Crompton more via Higher Park where they were rewarded with superb views over Shaw for their efforts.
Health Trainer and organiser Jean Norman said: “All walkers have made super progress and are proficient.”
