YOUNGSTERS from two local schools enjoyed one of the highlights of the academic year and invited the Correspondent along for the celebrations.
It was most definitely non-uniform day for pupils at Royton and Crompton School and Crompton House as they stepped out for the annual school proms.
Over three nights at three separate venues they dressed up to the nines to mark their respective end of terms.
Some arrived by taxi, others hired taxi of mum and dad, while some lucky ones ‘rocked up’ in a succession of eye-poppingly expensive motors.
A couple of brothers even arrived for the festivities on quad bikes. It’s that kind of occasion.
Royton and Crompton School again hired Hotel Smokies Park in Ashton for their Year 11 function.
And it lived up to its name as guests were caught in the smoke drifting from the moorland fires above Tameside.
Elsewhere, the Grade I listed Rochdale Town Hall hosted the prom for Year 11 students from Crompton House while Six Formers (Year 13) walked the red carpet for their prom evening at the Victoria and Albert Hotel in Manchester.
