Shaw Comrades edge out Latics Fanatics

SHAW Comrades edged to a narrow victory against local rivals Latics Fanatics in division two of the Inbev Winter Bowling League.

The win lifted Shaw into second spot while Latics are hanging on to their tails in fourth place.

The match took place at Chadderton Cricket and Bowling Club with the winner of each game receiving one point with the team accumulating most cumulative points receiving an extra three.

Comrades won the first game as Craig Adshead beat Elaine Ginnever 21-11 having at one stage only been 11-10 ahead.

Latics, a quartet of bowlers from Royton Cricket Club, drew level as Dot Dwyer edged past Marlene Higginbottom 21-17.

And Judith Charlton put Latics ahead after a 21-8 victory against Christine Stopforth.

Bill Higginbottom made it 2-2 following a 21-15 success against Danny Lee.

Comrades regained the lead when John Stopforth defeated Lynn Connolly 21-12 before Latics drew level when Liam Lambert overcame Steve Taylor 21-8.

Carol Wroe put Shaw 4-3 ahead with a 21-8 victory against John Patterson.

Latics’ Steve Eddleston beat Janet Taylor 21-15 as the match ended 4-4, but Shaw won the aggregate 138-130 to claim the extra points to win the match 7-4.
