CHRISTMAS EVE will mark exactly five months since Alex Thwaite and Jared Chilton took on the tenancy of the Morning Star pub, Shaw.
Since accepting the keys, partners Alex, 31, and 27-year-old American-born Jared have been putting their own stamp on the well-known hostelry at 107 Grains Road.
The duo have done so while also benefiting from last year’s major refurbishment of the JW Lees owned establishment which resulted in a new warm and welcoming open plan design.
Previously at the Kingfisher Tavern in Kirkham, near Preston, Alex and Jared’s primary focus has been an overhaul of the menu and kitchen staff.
Oldham-born Lewis Hibbert was appointed as head chef having previously worked extensively in Devon including at the former Michelin starred, New Angel, in Dartmouth.
“I like my fish dishes but with all the food I’m just looking to add a little twist to the traditional dishes to make them stand out,” he said.
“I’m also keen to source as much produce from local suppliers as possible.”
Already booked up for Christmas Day, the Morning Star launches its Christmas Menu on Monday, November 26 including a three course option for just £15.95.
“We want to get the word out to people about the refurbishment, about the new kitchen team, our new menus and the food which is hearty and competitively priced,” added Alex, originally from Holmfirth.
“I have been in the pub trade since leaving school and been with Lees now for six years. But this is our first tenancy having worked at managed houses, including the Kingfisher.
“We looked at a few places but really liked the look and feel of this one. The tap room and lounge were opened up during the refurb and anyone who hasn’t visited before or been for a while will find it welcoming.”
And there is plenty of opportunity to call in at the Morning Star. Food is served every day from 12pm until 9pm apart from Sunday when the kitchen closes an hour earlier. To find out more ring 01706 662483 or find them on Facebook.
