Shaw was a great season

SHAW Cricket Club is celebrating the most successful season in the history of the club.

Its first XI has become the first senior side from Holebottom Clough to complete a treble.

Shaw have won the Division 2A title in the Greater Manchester Cricket League as well as the League Cup and T20 competition.

Proud captain Steve Whiston said: “It has been a season of unprecedented success for the club.

“I have won a couple of titles and cups previously but there is nothing that will beat captaining Shaw, my home club, to the treble.

“It is rare to win a treble in cricket and only Graeme Simpson has previously achieved it when he was at Delph.”

Whiston added the success has been a collective team effort as opposed to individuals starring.

He continued: “It has been a fantastic season. All the lads we brought in have done well and every players has performed.

“When you look at the stats, no team in our division has scored more runs or taken more wickets so we are there on merit.”

Shaw Spartans, the club’s T20 team, picked up the first piece of silverware the senior side had won for 12 years.

That was followed by victory against Westleigh at Royton to win the League Cup.

And the treble was completed when the league title was secured in the last game of the season – promotion had already been secured.

• Shaw’s new third team won silverware in its first season in the GMCL capturing the Sunday 3rd XI Cup.
