Stone me – it is Mani at the Duke!

A LEGEND of the Manchester music scene was a surprise visitor to a Heyside pub.

And regulars at the Duke of York did a double take when Stone Roses bassist Mani walked in for a beer.

Mani, whose real name is Gary Mounfield and who was brought up in Failsworth, was happy to pose for photos, as our snap with manager Andy Mulhall shows.

Vinnie Caira, landlord of the Duke and Halfway House in Royton, said: “I don’t think I would have recognised Mani but Andy knew who he was.

“He came in with some of his pals, possibly some fellow musicians, for a few beers.

“There was a great atmosphere and it was a great night.”

The Roses were at the forefront of the Manchester music scene releasing classic tracks such as I Wanna Be Adored, I Am the Resurrection, Fools Gold and She Bangs the Drum.

Mani, who celebrated his 57th birthday on November 16, also played with Primal Scream.
