Claire Pickavance bought Waggy Warehouse in October last year and with her trusty Jackapoo – a cross between a Poodle and a Jack Russell – by her side she is aiming to make serious waves in the pet therapy and grooming industry.

To do so, she has taken a new approach to dog therapy with the introduction of Reiki, a Japanese technique for reducing stress and promoting relaxation in your four-legged friend.

Waggy Warehouse believes the theory behind Reiki – that a ‘life force energy’ flows through us all – can be applied to the canine world and that dogs are just as complex as humans with their emotions.

“Whether it’s a behavioural disorder, injury, or arthritis, or general well-being, your dog may be helped by Reiki,” said Claire, who is co-owner of the Linney Lane establishment.

Her passion for dogs is the main driving force behind Waggy Warehouse and positive reinforcement for our furry friends is at the top of the priority list.

There is no force policy and no negativity, and lead trainer Ruth gets amazing results from dogs and their owners.

Meet and greet sessions are held so staff can build up a relationship and trust with the dogs and their owners before training begins.

This level of calm and positivity is also important for groomer Paula, who specializes in nervous and aggressive dogs and has 30 years of experience.

And all these techniques are key for the new ‘Waggy Academy’ which offers a variety of dog training classes and courses as Claire is always keen to “keep looking for new ideas”.

Waggy Workshops on Tuesdays cover different issues from barking, jumping up, and destruction and chewing.

There are also private one-to-one training sessions on Tuesday evenings so owners can address a particular issue with their dog.

A six-week basic course called Rowdy Rover offers all the general basic adult dog training, including commands, lead walking and recall.

Waggy Rescue Rehabilitation Classes on Wednesdays are for dogs that have been rehomed with new owners and need extra training and help building positive relationships with new families.

And not forgetting the babies of the group, there is a Puppy Training six-week course on Saturday mornings, covering biting, manners, handling and more.

Claire added: “If you are looking for a positive and safe environment for you and your dog to train, heal, or simply become closer, then Waggy Warehouse is the ideal place!”
