CHRISTINA Rees is the newly installed president of Royton Townswomen’s Guild, whose efforts over the past 12 months raised £1,500 for the Oldham branch of Parkinson’s UK.
Christina takes over the reins from Joyce Milner and the handover took place during the recent RTG annual general meeting.
The Guild is its own charity but each year members choose a charity of their own to fund raise for.
Throughout the last year, they enjoyed watching a production at Playhouse 2, Shaw and also took part in a cheese tasting evening as part of their money raising efforts.
The role of President is an honorary title and acknowledges long serving and dedicated members of the Guild.
Barbara Micklethwaite, Chairman of Royton Townswomen’s Guild, said: “This year’s AGM highlighted the continuing success of our Guild, of which we are very proud.
“We are delighted with our increasing membership, the considerable donation we made to the Oldham branch of Parkinson’s UK and the growing interest in the weekly activities and outings that take place in addition to our monthly meetings.
“It was also a great opportunity to celebrate the time Joyce has spent as our president.
“Her dedication to the Guild resulted in her becoming our president something mirrored by Christina, who now takes on the role.”
There is always opportunity to become a member of the Royton Townswomen’s Guild.
Additionally, to fundraising events, members can enjoy activities such as bowling, a book club, knitting, walking, outings and much more.
The Guild’s chosen charity for this year is the Bury branch of the Forget Me Not Trust Children’s Hospice, Grace’s Place.
